Fall is a magical season for traveling in the northeastern United States. Autumn there is saturated in color and bathed in a mystical autumn light. The season is also more quiet without the rush of summer tourists. Visitors do come to see the changing foliage, but the fall is a tranquil and more laid-back season of the year. Here are a couple of my favorite cabins amidst the changing colors and brilliant waterfront views in New England.
Maine – The Sea Spray
For our visit to Acadia National Park in Maine, we stayed in nearby Hancock. The waterfront view from the house is magnificent, and the lodging is very comfortable, and somewhat secluded. It is off the beaten path but close enough to area restaurants and shopping.
The house is well-designed and well-furnished. It is an open concept design with high ceilings and everything looks fresh and new. There is internet, television, DVD player, and Netflix. The kitchen has all that is needed, and the hosts stocked the refrigerator with cheeses, blueberry jam, crackers and a bottle of wine. They also included fresh flowers! Upstairs, the master bedroom has a view through large windows of the water and sky, where the morning sun pours in the window and at night you can see many stars. My favorite spot was the patio by water’s edge, where I could relax and light a fire. This was a perfect place to unwind and take in the views of Cadillac Mountain and Acadia. Available VRBO.
Vermont-600 feet Lakefront
This is the perfect spot on Lake Eden. The foliage was still changing colors, but the whole neighborhood was empty and peaceful before the winter and holiday ski season. The cabin is rustic and spacious with a masculine vibe. Vintage ski equipment hangs on the walls with a warm fireplace with plenty of wood. The kitchen is open concept with the rest of the first floor. There is no television, but WIFI reception is excellent. We ended our evenings with dinner at the kitchen table and a game of scrabble in front of the fireplace.
The master bedroom has a raised ceiling and a great view of the lake from the windows and from the balcony off the bedroom. The wrap around balcony on the first floor was a cozy place for tea in the crisp cool mornings. It was truly a beautiful retreat where we could relax and enjoy the moment. For skiers, the slopes are close by. Available through VRBO.
