A Room With a View

Beachfront on the Bolivar Peninsula

When we look for accommodations out of town it is all about the view. We’ve stayed on many lakefront, riverfront and ocean front properties, but this beach house has one of the finest views of the water. The landscape in this case is the Texas Gulf Coast. Like most houses on the Bolivar Peninsula, Shores-uh-Bliss is elevated on stilts (to survive hurricane storm surges). Thus, the view from the large patio is about 20 feet above ground level, and all the more spectacular!

The house itself is quite nice, with two bedrooms and baths, and a large open living-dining-kitchen area. The furnishings are pastel colors and contemporary in design. The property is a short drive from the High Island bird sanctuary. Not a lot of restaurants open on Christmas Eve or Christmas nearby. We drove the 30 miles to Winnie for our dining. We were also able to cook a hen for Christmas in the kitchen with all the cooking utensils provided. If you enjoy fishing there is fish cleaning area down below at ground level along with a gas grill. If you stay here at a time other then Christmas there are plenty of good dining options. Particularly if you enjoy seafood.

The internet worked well, but the cable TV was iffy, especially at night. My husband recorded on-demand programs in the early morning for us to watch at night when we were not outside watching the waves crash on the shore. This property is available through Airbnb.
